The Mid Kent was founded in 1977 and is one of the oldest surviving clubs in Kent. It has undergone many transformations since its inception but has always had its base and roots in the historic county town of Maidstone. The club has survived and thrived over the 27 years despite the attacks on the hobby from its detractors and has gone from strength to strength now enjoying close relationships with forward thinking archaeologists within the county
The club maintains displays of members finds at both the Maidstone & Rochester Guildhall Museums providing an educational service to members of the public interested in ancient metalwork and the hobby
We are a friendly club offering the benefits of regular monthly club meetings at which our members (who come from many areas all over Kent) benefit from information on club matters, (N.C.M.D) matters (both regionally and Nationally the club is affiliated to the National Council for Metal Detecting (N.C.M.D) and any members joining must be fully paid up members of this organisation which is at the forefront in protecting and fighting for the best interests of the hobby). The club also provide members with various other benefits including club rallies (where land is available), and during the course of the year Speakers who are invited to give talks on their specialist subject
Club competitions are held each month at which members finds are judged and awarded points for the best find (coin and artefact categories ) found since the last meeting culminating at the end of the year in the awarding of trophies for the “ find of the year “ and “ detectorist “ of the year.
Our club has also had the distinction of being entered into and winning one of the categories in the (N.C.M.D) Robin Hatt trophy on 3 consecutive years You are visitor number |
